The present Lodge Hall in Lethbridge is situated at 315A - 10 Street
South. Four Craft Lodges and nine Concordant Masonic bodies use
the facilities.
The building was built in 1912 by the 'Sons of England' It was used as
a Cinema and dance hall. In 1920 the Sons of England sold the building
to the Masonic Lodges in Lethbridge. In order to purchase the building
the Lodges formed a Masonic Hall Co., and issued one thousand shares at
$25.00 per share. Members were permitted to purchase these shares with
$5.00 down and the remainder on a monthly payment if desired of $1.00,
and many were sold in this manner.
Beginning in 1981, the Masonic Hall Co., decided to commence a major
upgrade of the facilities. As usual it was necessary to curb expenses,
therefore most of the work was done by the brethren on a voluntary
basis. There are two floors plus a full basement (the latter in terrible
condition), and the work was completed by 1991. The brethren now have
lodge facilities in which they can well be proud of. In the past number
of years the Hall Co., has operated in the black.
The Masonic Hall Co., have been quite fortunate to have two tenants on
the ground floor which goes a long way towards paying the expense of the
upkeep.
